I’m pleased to announce that Team Room Escape Artist will be playing as the government of China in next week’s Rookie Edition of Watch the Skies.

I'm so excited that I dropped $40 on Chinese flag pins for my teammates... They were of course made in China.

What is a Megagame?

Part RPG and part board game, Watch the Skies brings together 60 players who will play on teams as various nations, news reporters, corporate factions and the alien visitors.

Each nation is made up of a team fulfilling different roles: the Foreign Minister, the Top Scientist, the Military Chief, the Deputy Head of State and the Head of State. The Foreign Minister will hold talks with other countries and the UN. The Top Scientist will research new and alien technologies. The Military Chief will control the military and the spies. The Deputy Heads of State will work with the news organizations and make sure the team’s plans are executing. The Heads of State will listen to his advisers and ultimately call the shots for his nation.

The newspaper reporters will be trying to report the truth using special… methods and compete to receive the coveted Pulitzer Prize. And the aliens… well, you’ll have to play the game to see what they’re up to.

The game is expected to last approximately six hours.

Shut Up & Sit Down

We learned about Watch the Skies last year from our favorite table top gaming blog, Shut Up & Sit Down, and have been trying to get a team registered ever since.

Their video of the experience is hilarious.

We can escape rooms, but can we navigate international and intergalactic politics? Stay tuned.

  2. Hi there!

I was deputy Head of State for Team Brazil. We did everything we could to try and undermine you guys! 🙂

Really interested in your perspective on the game.

    1. I’m working on a full post to discuss our experiences… But oh boy did we hate you guys in-game.

We caught-on to your media shenanigans real fast, and knew that the Photoshop job was coming from you as well. The threatening fortune cookies were a [hilarious] surprise.

We had a very hard time finding allies outside of Asia, and experienced a strange metagame where we couldn’t tell how much of the distrust we faced came from your propaganda campaign; stated objectives to beat China in technological advancement; and/or if we were dealing with some strange form of bigotry because we were China.

Nevertheless, our team held you folks in high regard because we knew that you showed up to play.

Out of curiosity, how much money did you guys have coming in at the end of the game? Also, what was the US doing all game? We had almost no interaction with them, and they seemed nearly irrelevant during the second half of the game.
