REA Reaction

Biker’s Revenge was exactly what I didn’t know I needed from an escape room built to look like a dive bar. Each and every item, from floor to ceiling, was well thought through, and many were used as unexpected puzzle elements.

The amount of tiny details jam-packed in the space kept us on our toes, enhancing the immersion and bringing the room to life. All of these features amplified the narrative, making our team truly feel like we were undercover police investigating the local biker gang. Almost every interaction was thematic, tangible, and just plain fun, with the exception of one input that was overly precise and lacked leeway.

The vast array of games at Encrypted Escape Room West Reading came as a pleasant surprise, with each experience feeling unique in both set and puzzle design. While this was their oldest game at this location, Biker’s Revenge did not feel dated in the slightest, and offered a unique take on this theme.

I’d go back and get a drink at this pub any day (but probably bring my own glass, considering the amount of hands that have touched the ones behind the bar).

Story

After years of working undercover, we had finally tracked down the clubhouse of the local outlaw gang, and had been left alone to gather evidence and report back to the police before the gang returned.

Setting

Biker’s Revenge took place in a dingy dive bar equipped with a full bar packed with fan favorites, a stage for the band, and a poker table. Every piece of décor was spot-on and well thought out, really honing into the theme. I’d happily grab a drink here while listening to some bad ACDC cover band.

Gameplay

Encrypted’s Biker’s Revenge was a standard escape room with a moderate level of difficulty.

Core gameplay revolved around puzzling, observation, interacting with set pieces, making connections, and serving drinks. (I, too, wish they were real drinks.)

Analysis

➕ The experience was consistent from beginning to end, with no gaps in puzzle flow or lack of thematic encounters.

➕  One puzzle gave our team the chance to make a ruckus. We thoroughly enjoyed banging our heads against this puzzle.

➕ All partial solutions and reveals were coupled with audio and lighting cues to guide us in the next direction. With the addition of these, many of the solves were even more satisfying and exciting.

➖ One puzzle in particular had a finicky input mechanism with an unnecessary identification step that felt questionable and slightly uncomfortable.

➕ Every single item in the room was dead-on. It was exactly what you would expect to find in a real bar, including interactive beer taps, musical memorabilia, leather jackets, and street signs. All of these objects aided in creating thematic aha moments for each puzzle interaction.

➖ The ending was thematic, yet needless. The interaction felt forced in order to guide players out a different way, and Biker’s Revenge easily could have ended one puzzle earlier without taking away from the overall narrative.

Tips For Visiting

  • Parking: There is ample paid street parking around the corner.
  • Food: If you’re in town during August, make sure to check out the West Reading French Fry Festival. The Korean BBQ fries were incredible!
