It’s well-known throughout the escape room world that books don’t survive long in an escape room.
In very little time, the bindings begin cracking, and then things get worse from there at remarkable speed.

This had me wondering what libraries do about this problem, because popular library books are constantly in circulation.
As is always the case when it comes to librarians: they have long had a solution to the problem.
Library Binding
Library books are physically built better than regular books.
You can look at a breakdown of library binding vs consumer hardcover books, or you can enjoy this amusing video exploring the topic:
Where Does One Get Library Bound Books?
The Library Store and even Amazon sell them.
Additionally, some publishers sell them directly.
Better built books are more expensive, but you get what you pay for.
Can Library Bound Books Survive in Escape Rooms?
Honestly, I have no idea.
I am certain that library bound books will last longer. I’m betting that they are noticeably more durable.
How much more durable? Well, if any of you try it, please report back.
But please remember to use loose books carefully in escape rooms. Regardless of durability issues, they can be a massive source of red herrings.
