The Relic was another prime experience from Let Me Out Escape Rooms that offered the joy of puzzling in an atmospheric and interactive set. As far as Indiana Jones-ish adventures go, this was a solid offering full of flow. Newer players will be wowed and benefit from the significant chance of winning and a satisfaction that will draw them back to the industry. Experienced players will appreciate the smooth game play.

The game made an expansive first impression with a looming floor-to-ceiling wall and an unusually elongated space, setting an expectation for a grand experience. Some magical mid-game moments upheld this expectation, leaving the puzzles to carry the rest. Aside from a couple of early game combination locks, the experience was propelled through interactive and environmentally appropriate triggers that were well-clued with decent feedback. The whole game was of a consistently high quality, but there was an opportunity for a final crescendo to continue the early game momentum. This is an area where Let It Out Escape Rooms can improve upon their already consistent puzzle flow.

This room was not complicated, nor did it break ground. However, with its puzzle quality, smooth game flow, and a beautiful presentation, it was a high end experience for the Houston area. With rooms like The Relic and Alice’s Dream, Let Me Out Escape Rooms is serving an essential purpose in its market, providing approachable gateways for newer players and families into the hobby.

Story

Our team of archaeologists had been recruited to enter a temple and find a special artifact…a…relic, you might say.

Setting

We began our journey at the door of a gigantic temple, bathed in twilight and surrounded by foliage. The elongated space and high walls made a grand first impression.

Gameplay

Let Me Out’s The Relic was a standard escape room with a moderate level of difficulty.

Gameplay consisted of observing, making connections, and interacting with fun set pieces and props.

Analysis

➕ The Relic had a gorgeous, sturdy set with a couple of elegant effects along the way.

➕ Every puzzle seemed fair and well-clued, offering a smooth experience from beginning to end.

➕ The game offered the opportunity for parallel puzzling at multiple junctures but would also be reasonable to play sequentially to see all the puzzles.

➕ One twist on a common mechanic defied our expectations, yielding an unexpectedly delightful aha.

➖ Although much of the gameplay could occupy larger groups, the late game bottlenecked in terms of space and activities.
