“CruPont Legacy’s debut experience NightShift took a bold step into the darkness, successfully pulling off a number of tricks and twists that I’ve never before seen in another escape room. The environment was immaculate, the storytelling was compellingly self-aware, and each scene perfectly flowed into the next.”
REA Reaction
NightShift demonstrated a deep knowledge of and appreciation for the horror escape room genre. Building on the canvas of a classic horror setting — a creepy, abandoned hospital — CruPont Legacy found numerous ways to put a spin on the format and subvert the expectations of even the most experienced of players.
It felt like CruPont Legacy had built a game not just to impress, but also that they’d love to play themselves. With strong Silent Hill vibes, the environment was filled with a menagerie of actual hospital equipment and supplies, and its labyrinthian hallways quickly had us lost in the world. This pervasive realism also allowed CruPont Legacy to construct increasingly unique scenes that we fully bought into.

NightShift offered 2 modes: Terror Mode and Mystery Mode. We played and highly recommend the full experience in Terror Mode, in which the hallways are filled with various scary denizens. The experience was actively scary in ways that were impressive, thrilling, and often quite beautiful. Even as we became more comfortable with the space and play style, NightShift still managed to mix things up with a slew of creative solo moments and surprising twists and turns. For more horror-averse teams, NightShift featured a cool environment and solid puzzling, and we imagine it would still offer a fairly full experience in the less scary Mystery Mode.
CruPont Legacy took a common theme and format, and they fully made it their own. For horror fans visiting Barcelona, NightShift is not to be missed.

Story
A few days ago, the night watchman of the abandoned St. Mary’s Hospital had stopped reporting for duty. We arrived at the hospital to search for him.

Setting
NightShift took place in a hyperrealistic reconstruction of a creepy old hospital, filled with real furniture and medical equipment from an actual creepy old hospital. The setting was dark, menacing, and detailed.

Gameplay
CruPont Legacy’s NightShift was a horror escape room with a moderate level of difficulty.
Core gameplay revolved around solving puzzles, making connections, communicating, and searching.
Analysis
➕ NightShift excelled in its pacing as it built tension, anticipation, and terror across a wide variety of scenes and interactions. The premise was simple and clear, yet it built on itself in some unusual ways as the story progressed.
➕ CruPont Legacy constructed an expansive environment for NightShift, using the space creatively and efficiently. Filled with creepy old hospital equipment, it was never obvious what was real and what was constructed. The set felt meaningfully designed around our movements throughout it.
➕ NightShift featured excellent acting, with creative jump scares and a high quality of movement.
➕/➖ There were a large number of solo moments, more than enough to go around. While the transitions into these scenarios were varied and visually impactful, the puzzle style in these solo moments was often quite similar and became a bit repetitive by the end.
➕ The lighting and sound design quickly immersed us in a cinematic world and expertly guided us around the environment.
➕/➖ The puzzles were overall fun, creative, and clearly clued. However, a small handful of puzzles — including one of the first puzzles of the game — relied on an excess of “escape room logic” that felt incongruous with the rest of the gameplay.
➕ A particularly uncomfortable scene justified its approach, providing just enough variety to keep things more exciting than annoying.
➕ We were blown away by an unforgettable transition that brilliantly toyed with our expectations and our emotions, successfully pulling us even deeper into the dark world that CruPont Legacy had constructed.
➕/➖ A high-stakes moment was meaningful on both a metaphorical and a physical level, though a brief audio cue could have helped to improve trust while also providing some useful additional context.
➕ Amidst the darkness, we appreciated a moment of human connection that built on our established relationship with a character to raise the stakes.
➕/➖ The finale was exhilarating and well choreographed, but it also felt a bit too similar to the structure of a previous scene. A magician doesn’t repeat the same trick twice, and we questioned whether NightShift could have found a more unexpected direction to channel all the energy and anticipation it had cultivated so phenomenally throughout the experience.
