REA Reaction
Many emotions can arise when moving into a new home. Ours was mainly driven by excitement, because we had scored an EVASOTEC home! A turnkey property that even came with a cozy bunker. After shutting our front door we were treated to a dynamic, informative, and engaging introduction by the AI that ran the house. He went by the name of ATOM, and explained the ins and outs of being good homeowners, lest we incur the wrath of the HOA.
Once we were let loose on our surroundings we were able to split up and engage with several different puzzle paths. The non-linear, multi-step challenges allowed us to split the work and stay engaged as we tidied and reorganized our little home. The puzzle flow was logical and the lock mapping was clear, so we were always confident where we needed to input a solution. ATOM was encouraging and helpful as we made our way through the list of tasks we needed to complete.
After an exciting transition between spaces, we found ourselves in a new part of our home with more puzzles to solve. However, after solving everything that our home had to offer, we were a bit disappointed that the finale sequence was just a means of leaving the escape room and didn’t include an interesting twist or final puzzle.

The set wasn’t grandiose, but where Evasive Escape Rooms chose to focus efforts had a positive impact on the realism and immersion throughout the different scenes. As we explored the spaces further, we wished for a bit more detail on some of the props to further enhance the authenticity. For instance, we expected one integral item to be significantly heavier than it actually was.
Evasive Escape Rooms markets The Family Fallout Shelter as a “family friendly experience” and the variety of puzzles and interactions certainly catered toward blended age groups. The Family Fallout Shelter would be an excellent first time escape room experience with a logical puzzle flow and fun story. More experienced puzzlers should also play The Family Fallout Shelter if they are in the area, though a smaller group may be recommended since the space is a bit tight and the puzzles are on the easier side.
Who is this for?
- Beginners
- Players who don’t need to be a part of every puzzle

Story
EVASOTEC Home Solutions provided the opportunity every millennial dreams of… home ownership! As our realtor dropped us off at our front door, we were greeted by ATOM our state-or-the-art AI that made keeping a clean and efficient home even easier. As a bonus, our home came with a cozy bunker! “Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it,” that’s what we’ve always said. Our first step was to finish up our daily chores, so that we could relax and enjoy our new domicile.

Setting
This fully-furnished home was move-in ready. The 50s decorating style was prominent and felt realistic in this small, but well decorated space. Coupled with the AI character, the initial space felt retro-futuristic, reminiscent of The Jetsons.

Gameplay
Evasive Escape Rooms’ The Family Fallout Shelter was an in-person escape room with a easy-to-moderate level of difficulty.
Core gameplay required a small amount of searching, but mostly revolved around a variety of interactions including dexterity, visual connections, sound, and color puzzles.
Analysis
➕ The intro and onboarding in The Family Fallout Shelter, given by the AI ATOM, was spectacular. The lighting cues, music, and lead in were exceptionally well executed.
➕ The helpful AI character was charming and provided narrative beats throughout the experience as well some comical moments that were a delight to experience.
➕ The set was well decorated and designed. The realism in each space was thoughtful and allowed us to become immersed in the experience.
➖ We wished that there was a bit more authenticity to a few of the props we encountered. One item type that was essential for the story didn’t have the heft that we would have expected and some printed labels were not very realistic.
➖ We would not recommend more than four adult players for The Family Fallout Shelter. There were some tight transition spaces that would not accommodate a 5th person well. For experienced players, we believe teams of two or three would be ideal for the experience.
➕ There were clearly defined non-linear puzzle paths during the first half of the game that allowed all of us to stay engaged in solving puzzles. We also found the solution inputs very intuitive due to clear lock mapping throughout the room.
➖ The second half of the escape room wasn’t memorable. The rationale for the puzzles in this space was not clear based on the story. The finale also felt like it was missing a satisfying conclusion, which we found disappointing.
Tips For Visiting
