For many years, our recommendation “guide” for Houston, TX was a single game: the award-winning The Man from Beyond at Strange Bird Immersive. Many an escape room enthusiast has made the pilgrimage to play just this one game. And in 2023, over half a decade since its inception, it still holds up — as a truly stunning work of immersive theater, as an innovative escape room, and as an experience worth traveling any distance for.

While The Man from Beyond is still far and beyond the top experience in Houston, I am happy to report that it is no longer the only game we recommend in the greater Houston area. Two other companies — both within an hour drive of Houston, in Sugar Land and Texas City — are producing stellar escape rooms that are worth traveling to while you’re in the region.
