Larps, Game Shows, Publishing, Puppeteering, and Errols
One of my favorite parts of going to an ice cream shop is trying little spoons of a few flavors before I order. Today’s Key Moments episode of Reality Escape Pod is like scooping twelve little spoons of deliciousness from the Season 11 ice cream freezer! Hosts David and Peih-Gee interviewed another fantastic batch of veteran makers, creatives, and puzzle obsessives.
Reality Escape Pod is a great resource for escape room professionals to hear other perspectives on the trials and tribulations owners face, and also how the creatives they hire make their experiences come alive.

First up was Laura Kröger, who created Odysseus, an incredible Nordic-style larp inspired by the Battlestar Galactica remake. Learn how the difficult decisions its players face can lead to real emotions and deep social bonds.
Rik Stapelbroek is another owner not afraid of taking big swings. His game Prison Escape in the Netherlands challenges its players to work together to escape an actual decommissioned prison. We also talked to owner Steven Keller and manager Shawn Mercier of Sauve Qui Peut in Quebec, Canada. In the episode, you can hear all about Steven’s unique “story last” approach to escape room design.

Owners James Hamer-Morton & Charlie Bond of Deadlocked in the UK gave their perspective on imposter syndrome, and Rémy Strope of Live Cinema explained the movie theater-to-escape room experience he helped build as Zone 51 in Paris.
Reality Escape Convention 2026 speakers Emma Rochon and Troy Armstrong were each on one episode and gave us a taste of their expertise. Emma talked about the untapped potential of outdoor escape rooms, which has been a boon for her company Improbable Escapes. Troy is the Director of Product Design for The Great Big Game Show and he focuses on the power of audio in an immersive experience.

Charlie Melcher is the host of The Future of Storytelling podcast. In his long career he has had a hand in creating unique books like Madonna’s “Sex” and J.J. Abrams’s “S.” In his episode, he talked about the power of physical books and immersive theater.
Episode six was full of incredible stories from Terri Hardin, a puppeteer for Jim Henson, Ghostbusters, Disney, and many others. The story of designing the dragon below the Disneyland Paris castle is particularly entertaining, and it’s included in this compilation.

And don’t miss the segment with Amanda Whitney and Errol Elumir, half of the popular podcast Room Escape Divas. Along with plenty of their valuable (and hilarious) perspectives on the industry, they also treated us to some of the parody songs Errol wrote about the quirks and frustrations found in escape rooms.
The last episode of the season featured RoomEscapeArtist.com editor-in-chief Lisa Spira. She gave us the “State of REA,” findings from the annual audience census, and her occasionally bizarre experiences managing tickets for the popular “Escape, Immerse, Explore” tours.

About Steve Ewing

Steve is passionate about all things audio-visual. A childhood King’s Quest compulsion became a zeal for escape rooms. A high school NPR habit evolved into a podcast addiction. A lifelong love for PBS science shows became a career filming and editing for National-Geographic/ Lindblad Expeditions.
He is thrilled to lend his talents as an editor for the Reality Escape Pod, Club Drosselmeyer, and Morty.app.
Steve loves to be surprised by an escape room that’s off-meta. Flip the script on any element — the way you build a set, open a lock, or even give a hint and you’ve got his attention. He’s even been suckered in by a fake refrigerator door.
