REA Reaction

I really enjoyed that the front door to Elevate: Skylounge was an actual elevator door, with a very convincing elevator on the other side. It set the tone with a fun, immersive note right from the start. The game was consistently well-themed throughout. All puzzle elements felt diegetic to the environment, and the overall tone leaned humorous, at times even slightly cheeky.

A countertop with a register, drink dispenser and a plate of food. Behind the counter are wine bottles in holders and on a shelf. To the side is an emergency exit door.

The experience featured multiple parallel solving paths, allowing us to split up or collaborate, while still offering enough puzzle density to keep a reasonably-sized group engaged. However, our puzzling progress stalled a couple of times when it appeared that we had access to enough elements that a specific puzzle should have been solvable, but we were still dealing with incomplete information. We used hints appropriately to ensure that we would complete the game in a timely manner, and thankfully finished… albeit close to the end of the hour.

Ultimately, I had fun in this immersive elevator/ bar-themed game, and would love to actually attend a party in the Skylounge!

Story

A party was scheduled to start in an hour, and the employee responsible for setup was a no-show, so we were asked to help prepare.

Setting

The first portion of the game took place in a realistic looking elevator. Solving a series of puzzles allowed us to be transported to the Skylounge night club and bar.

Gameplay

Wild Goose Escapes’ Elevate: Skylounge was a standard escape room with a moderate level of difficulty.

The puzzles primarily emphasized observation and logical connections. One puzzle required a slight logical leap; the answer was clear, but we weren’t sure where to apply it until we received a hint.

Analysis

➕ The elevator felt authentic, almost uncomfortably so for a teammate who disliked elevators! (We had promised him that we would escape quickly from that space.) Personally, I appreciated the realism.

➕ Prepping the Skylounge for a party was a fun story and it was easy to forget that we weren’t in a real nightclub.

➕/➖ The party lighting was great for atmosphere, though some areas could have used additional illumination for solving—for example, in the elevator or on the high shelves.

➖ Many puzzles would have benefited from an audible confirmation when solved. On multiple occasions, we weren’t sure whether a puzzle had been completed, either because the detection mechanism was finicky and didn’t trigger, or because an item unlocked silently elsewhere.

➕/➖ The cluing felt concise and accurate for the most part, although a few minor red herrings distracted us. I also would have preferred that the anagram puzzle did not include multiple valid anagrams.

Tips For Visiting
