Update March 3: Both sessions are now SOLD OUT.

Update November 18: This Tour sold out in 48 hours during pre-saleand we just opened up a second session!

This April we are introducing a new Tour destination. Escape Immerse Explore Time & Space will start in Chicago and go by bus to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, a college town that is home to the best escape room company nobody has ever played: Champaign-Urbana Adventures in Time & Space.

Escape Immerse Explore Time & Space 2025

For years we have described Champaign-Urbana Adventures in Time & Space as one of the strongest escape room companies in the United States that most enthusiasts won’t get to because it’s far enough away from an airport that it really requires a commitment to get there.

Now when faced with a challenge like this, we here at Room Escape Artist like to ask the question, “But what if we throw a bus at the problem?” And thus, Escape Immerse Explore Time & Space has been born.

Text reads: "Time & Space" the ampersand has a triceratops within it. Additional text reads, "RoomEscapeArtist.com, Chaotic Good"

On this trip we will share with you a few of our favorite games in suburban Chicago (and point you towards a few extras that you should absolutely visit), have everyone play a tabletop puzzle game by the brilliant puzzle designer Sandy Weisz of The Mystery League, and bus everyone down for two days in Champaign-Urbana to indulge in the brilliance that is CU Adventures in Time & Space.

There has never been an easier way to enjoy these wonderful games, and we are incredibly excited to share them with you.

FAQ

Why this destination?

We’ve wanted to take a Tour to Champaign-Urbana Adventures in Time & Space since we first visited this delightful company that is far from everywhere. It’s 2 hours from Indianapolis, 2.5 hours from Chicago, and 3 hours from St. Louis.

So we waited patiently for one of these cities to present itself as the jumping off point for a bus ride to Champaign-Urbana. We’ve especially had our eye on Chicago because playing a group game from The Mystery League would be an added bonus.

After visiting 60 to Escape’s Schaumburg location (in suburban Chicago), we were impressed by their games, and we were ready to make this Tour idea into a reality.

Why is this Tour called Escape Immerse Explore Time & Space?

This Tour covers the most distance of any Tour we’ve run yet. Chicago didn’t seem right. Neither did Champaign-Urbana. We were looking for something else. Since the name of the company that inspired this Tour is so much fun, we named it after them.

Are there any Golden Lock Award-winning games on this Tour?

Yes! Both Game Night and Revenge of the Cabin at CU Adventures won Golden Lock awards in 2022.

Can I buy a ticket to Escape Immerse Explore Time & Space if I’ve already played games at these companies?

That’s going to depend on how much you’ve already played.

Contact us. We’ll make it work if we can.

How will we get from game to game?

We will be going by bus from Schaumburg, Illinois (the Chicago suburb where 60 to Escape is located) to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, where CU Adventures is located.

60 to Escape is at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. The Tour hotel will be conveniently located near there, so you’ll be able to Uber/ Lyft (or possibly even walk) to these games. You won’t need a rental car unless you plan to play additional games all around the Chicago metro area.

The Tour hotel in Urbana will be about half a mile from CU Adventures. You’ll be able to walk or Uber/ Lyft from the hotel to your games and back. You shouldn’t need a car.

Can you give me a sense of the schedule?

This Tour will start in Schaumburg, which is a suburb of Chicago, travel to Urbana, and then drop you back off in Schaumburg.

Session 1:

  • Welcome in Schaumburg on Saturday evening
  • Sunday at 60 to Escape in Schaumburg
  • Game by The Mystery League on Sunday in Schaumburg
  • Sunday evening trip by bus to Urbana, Illinois.
  • Monday and Tuesday at CU Adventures in Urbana.
  • Bus back to Schaumburg on Tuesday evening

This Tour will have two hotel blocks. We expect most folks will spend Saturday night and Tuesday night in Schaumburg. (That said, you could stay anywhere else in or around Chicago.) We will spend Sunday night and Monday night in Champaign-Urbana.

Session 2:

  • Welcome in Schaumburg on Monday evening
  • Tuesday at 60 to Escape in Schaumburg
  • Game by The Mystery League on Tuesday in Schaumburg
  • Tuesday evening trip by bus to Urbana, Illinois.
  • Wednesday and Thursday at CU Adventures in Urbana.
  • Bus back to Schaumburg on Thursday evening

This Tour will have two hotel blocks. We expect most folks will spend Monday night and Thursday night in Schaumburg. (That said, you could stay anywhere else in or around Chicago.) We will spend Tuesday night and Wednesday night in Champaign-Urbana.

When do events start and end?

Session 1:

Please plan to arrive in Chicago on (or before) Saturday, April 26th, and stay until Wednesday morning, April 30th.

We will have a welcome gathering in Schaumburg on Saturday evening. Tour events will start early on Sunday morning.

On Tuesday evening, we will take a bus from Champaign-Urbana back to Schaumburg. The bus will get back pretty late. Do not plan to take a flight out of Chicago on Tuesday night.

Session 2:

Please plan to arrive in Chicago on (or before) Monday, April 28th, and stay until Friday morning, May 2nd.

We will have a welcome gathering in Schaumburg on Monday evening. Tour events will start early on Tuesday morning.

On Thursday evening, we will take a bus from Champaign-Urbana back to Schaumburg. The bus will get back pretty late. Do not plan to take a flight out of Chicago on Thursday night.

Will I get to choose which escape rooms I play?

No, but we’ll choose games specifically for you. You’ll fill out a fun pre-tour survey about your escape room preferences. We’re confident you’ll play a lot of games that you’ll love.

The most popular and impressive games in the region will appear on everyone’s schedule unless you opt out of them.

You’ll find out your escape room agenda far enough in advance that you can book additional games for yourself (at discounted prices) during the rest of your time in the Chicago area.

What is The Mystery League?

The Mystery League creates puzzle games for groups to enjoy. Puzzle designer Sandy Weisz talked more about these games on REPOD. On the Tour, we will play the game Search for a Superhero, which is a puzzle game, played by a small group seated at a table.

How many people will be on each team?

For all the escape rooms, you will play in teams of 4.

For Search for a Superhero, the session will be 24 people, playing in groups of 6.

Can I choose my teammates?

If you purchase 2 tickets together, you’ll play all of your games together.

If you purchase a single ticket, you may flag 1 other person to play all of your games with. We guarantee this request will be honored… provided that you both request one another.

You may request as many people as you’d like to have on your team for at least a few games and we’ll honor these requests to the best of our ability.

Your pre-tour survey will also help us select teammates with whom we think you’ll gel.

I’m coming with a group of friends and we’re going to schedule additional rooms outside of the Tour. Can you make sure we play the same schedule during the Tour?

Yes, provided your group is 6 people or less.

While you won’t play all your games on the Tour together, we will arrange it so that you play all the same games as each other, even though you’ll play them at different times. This will simplify your scheduling for additional games outside of the Tour. In order to ensure this, you must tell us who you are traveling with in your pre-tour survey.

If your group is more than 6 people, we may not be able to accommodate entirely matched schedules, but we’ll do the best we can.

I don’t know anyone else coming. Will that be a problem?

Not at all. A lot of our regulars travel alone. Coming alone is just an opportunity to meet new friends.

We’ll put you in groups with other escape room enthusiasts from far and wide.

What if I don’t like my teammates?

We will use the pre-tour surveys to group you with teammates whom we think you’ll enjoy playing with. On past Tours, many groups loved playing together so much that they booked additional rooms together at the end of the Tour.

That said, we will vary your teammates. You likely won’t play more than 3 games with the exact same team.

What should I do about airfare and hotels?

Your ticket does not cover travel or lodging. We will designate a Tour hotel each in Schaumburg and Urbana near the escape rooms, where we will have a hotel block with a great rate. Hotel block information will be emailed to ticket holders.

Are meals included in the ticket price?

Your ticket includes one meal.

Your other meals are not covered, but we’ll share restaurant recommendations near the escape rooms.

I can’t make it during these dates. Will you run this Tour again?

We can’t really say. We are planning to run additional Tours, but they may go to other destinations.

Is there a “Champion” or “VIP” or “Premium” ticket?

No, there is only 1 ticket type for this Tour.

I want to come to all your 2025 events, but my budget won’t allow it. How do I choose?

The good news is that our convention, RECON is remote in August of 2025, which means tickets are less expensive, and you can attend from home! If you work in the escape room or immersive gaming industry, we strongly recommend you come to RECON. It’s very worth it. Tickets will be available in 2025.

If you are choosing between this Tour and the Montreal Tour, here are the considerations:

Montreal is the top market in North America right now. That Tour will have more games, and many of them will be bigger and longer than anything you’ve experienced before. It truly impressive. It’s also a great option for Americans who are wary about traveling internationally. We make everything really easy!

CU Adventures is really hard to get to, since it’s at least 2 hours away from any major airport, but we have a bus to take you there. This is the easiest way to visit a top escape room company that is off the beaten path. We also highly recommend this Tour for industry professionals who want to experience top notch games at businesses that run really well. CU Adventures and 60 to Escape are both exemplary companies in this regard.

I’m an escape room owner/ employee or immersive experience designer. Can I participate?

Yes! All are welcome.

I have nothing to do with the escape room industry. I just want to play all the games! Can I participate?

Yes! Really… all are welcome.

Can I buy a ticket for someone under 18?

Unfortunately, no. All participants must be 18 years of age at the start of the Tour.

This is an insurance thing.

I’m concerned about the uncertainty around COVID-19. Should I buy a ticket?

This is the world we have to operate in now. We do our best to remain aware and adaptable, and support the needs of all guests. If you are high risk, know that a Tour is a social event, and make the right decision for you.

Is there a COVID-19 vaccination requirement?

No.

Can I sponsor an Escape Immerse Explore event?

Contact us about sponsorship opportunities.
