Traversing the wilds of the internet, I happened upon a corner of it that could really help US-based escape room owners acquire some interesting props for seemingly low prices. (Honestly, I couldn’t even begin to price out some of this stuff.)

GovDeals is a liquidation marketplace for governments at all levels to sell off stuff that they no longer need. Like eBay, there are buy prices or you can bid on items. Just looking at my home region of New York/ New Jersey, I found a bunch of things that seem like they could find a home in an escape room:
- Honeywell Safe – $35
- Railroad Crossing Sign – $399
- A Pair of 1980s Saticon Cameras – $236
- Scoreboards – $1
- Stretcher – $100
- Firetruck – $3,150
- And soooo many defunct Crown Victorias

I have no idea if you’ll find something that works for your design… and what shape it will be in. But after a few minutes on the site, I felt like escape room creators need to know about this upcycle opportunity.
