Davy Jones Locker was a beautiful, approachable, and entertaining puzzle box.

It had a clear starting place. (To find it, remember that every surface is in play!) Each step progressed logically. From each solution, I gained important information I could then apply to the next step. I also appreciated how the box reused components in new ways, which was always clearly clued.

One challenge of the format is that solutions revealed in one place must then be referenced elsewhere. I opted to copy down certain patterns…. and then got tripped up when my drawings were imprecise. This was on me, and thankfully iDventure had an excellent tiered hint system (which told me I was solving the puzzle correctly and helped me decipher my own notations.)

I enjoyed the nautical theme of the puzzles and the mechanisms involved in solving them. Everything was well constructed, and satisfying to manipulate in my hands. It felt solid and beautifully crafted. Compared to some of iDventure’s other Clueboxes, Davy Jones Locker was rather plain, both aesthetically and in terms of the inner reveal. Still, I greatly enjoyed holding, solving, admiring, and finally opening this Cluebox.
