Like all of iDventure’s Cluebox puzzle boxes, The Trial of Camelot was a beautiful object to behold before you even delved into the mechanics. This particular box was apparently a recreation of the Trial of Merlin solved by Sir Galahad, resulting in him being named the greatest knight by King Arthur himself. And as such, the theming around this box was very medieval; castles, towers, crowns, and swords were the common decorative and puzzle motifs.

Trial started off as a challenge; of all the Cluebox games that I have solved, I spent the longest time on Trial’s clearly labeled START puzzle. With some rethinking, I was able to move on to the subsequent puzzle. That start and stop happened throughout the time I spent with Trial. More than once I felt that I knew what I needed to be doing but was unsure of the effect of my actions or temporarily unwilling to put more force into an action than was usually necessary.
On the other hand, Trial provided some genuine moments of delight. iDventure made full use of all six sides of the cube, sprinkling in some surprise mechanics when rotating the puzzle box to see what was next. One puzzle in particular was very rewarding. Aspects of it were visible early on, but only once certain other actions had been linked together did the full picture come into view. An interaction near the end introduced a mechanic novel to any Cluebox I had played before, and the joy when realizing the solution was exceeded only by it actually working.
