REA Reaction

The Attic was a clean, classic-style escape room. Under new management, Just Escape Room has been reworking and improving upon their existing games, and we could see the progress.

This game was no frills, and puzzle focused. It played well and had a good collection of puzzles.

An attic with trunks, statues, a desk, art, and sports equipment.

If you’re in La Grange and looking for a puzzle fix, The Attic will get the job done. However, Floor 66 is still our favorite game at this location.

Who is this for?

  • Puzzle lovers
  • Any experience level

Why play?

  • Solid, classic escape room puzzle play

Story

Grandpa always told stories of treasure hunting; they never seemed true. However, when his old nemesis showed up looking for the treasure, we decided to believe. We set out to find it first.

Setting

We entered a room filled with the assorted artifacts that our grandfather had collected along his travels. The opening set evoked an attic, with deliberately unfinished walls. However, the game didn’t maintain this aesthetic throughout the experience.

Gameplay

Just Escape Room’s The Attic was a standard escape room with a moderate level of difficulty.

Core gameplay revolved around searching, making connections, and solving puzzles.

Analysis

➕ The Attic was a puzzle-focused escape room. The puzzles were all well-clued, and the gameplay flowed well.

➖ The set was pretty basic. It was loosely an attic, but it could have been just about anywhere. The set didn’t enhance the experience. It didn’t feel like a place that belonged to a real person with a real story. As the game progressed the set became even more… placeless.

➖ Some of the wires were visible within the set. Hiding the tech will make the magic more exciting (and more durable, long term.)

➕ The Attic was at its best when the puzzles required us to work together.

➕ We especially liked the unexpected direction one late game puzzle pointed us.
