Anne and Chris Lukeman did something totally crazy when the brought a pipelined, actor-driven, escape room sampler complete with a boss battle to GenCon in 2019.

Many escape rooms have experimented with these ideas over the years, but Game Night was all these things right from the start. It was the calling card that put CU Adventures on the map. It was the reason David and I – and so many other players – heard about this company located 2 hours from just about anywhere. CU Adventures has many newer experiences that we will likely chat about in depth in future Spoilers Club episodes, but Game Night is especially beloved, and has been played by the most people, so it seemed like the perfect adventure to chat with them about first.

This Spoilers Club episode opens with some Gen Con history and a look at the finances related to launching this game.

Then we dig into the deliberate design choices within Game Night. Anne and Chris explain how hard it is for the actors to run to run the game, but also how much freedom they have to do it their way, which was all by design.

We also discuss how Game Night has been adapted from a convention pop up to a longstanding, permanent experience.
