REA Reaction
It has been many years since I played classic Monopoly, but the images in MONOPOLY: Get Out of Jail! were completely familiar and it was delightful to see them in this game, some even in tangible form! It was easy to lose myself in the world of Rich Uncle Pennybags (Mr Monopoly). However, no prior knowledge of the game was necessary, which made this experience accessible to all escape room players. The set was solidly built and visually appealing, with plenty of standard escape room puzzle structures. The puzzles, while generally classic in design, all felt organic to the Monopoly theme.

The experience was underpinned by a solidly designed escape game that stands on its own merits. The references were fun for fans, but they were just one part of the appeal. We encountered a maintenance issue in one puzzle, but despite the confusion it caused, I was able to thoroughly enjoy the game’s cheeky sense of humor and I found myself squealing in joy at the finale. I believe the collaboration between Monopoly and Breakout worked remarkably well and could serve as a model for other licensed IP collaborations.
Who is this for?
- Puzzle lovers
- Monopoly fans
- Any experience level
Why play?
This game had a fun theme, and well-incorporated traditional escape game puzzles. It provided both a satisfying solving experience as well as a high-energy finale.
Story
We had Gone To Jail. Mr Monopoly had offered us his Get out of Jail free card in exchange for sneaking into his office and retrieving his hidden fortune for him.
Setting
The game was set in a jail and office displaying many iconic Monopoly references, all with a polished and high-production-value appearance.

Gameplay
Breakout Game’s MONOPOLY: Get Out of Jail! was a standard escape room with a moderate level of difficulty.
Core gameplay revolved around searching, observing, drawing connections, and solving puzzles.
Analysis
➕ The puzzles were well paced and just sufficiently clued. My small team of 2 was kept quite busy for almost an hour.
➖/➕ We encountered issues with a couple of the game elements, where things did not work as expected. In cases of technical failures, and even one case where it might have been user error that resulted in the issue, we asked for help, and the game host was able to perform some sort of remote override each time for us to proceed.
➖ The volume level of sound effects in the game felt overwhelming at times, but it may have been because we were trying to listen to a different audio puzzle playing at the same time.
➕ The use of life-sized licensed imagery was fun because it was so familiar, yet strangely big, so I occasionally felt as though I was actually inside a Monopoly game. No actual knowledge of Monopoly was required to play this escape room, but familiarity certainly made it fun and nostalgic!
Tips For Visiting
The venue is located in an industrial park and there is ample free parking. However, there are no restaurants in close walking distance.
