“I control the pacing [of the game] through the mechanics of the writing.”

When we had The Morrison Game Factory creator Lauren Bello and publisher Rita Orlov on REPOD S10E8, I found myself stymied. That’s because I so desperately wanted to talk about the story of the game, and how it made me feel. And yet I couldn’t, because I wanted to preserve the magic for future players.

So we invited them onto the Spoilers Club! I firmly believe that this game will be most effective if you go in knowing as little as possible for maximum impact. This is the first tabletop puzzle game that we’ve featured on the Spoilers Club, and I think after playing, you’ll realize why. This is probably one of the only board games/ puzzle games that genuinely made me tear up. Who’s cutting onions in here?

Lauren Bello is an accomplished television writer, and throughout the episode, she talks about structuring this game in a similar fashion to how she writes for television. I especially enjoyed hearing about how she “directs the action” through the line breaks in the story. It’s little wonder that The Morrison Game Factory was able to draw such emotions from its players. (Review) (REPOD S10E8)
