“The challenge with designing a sequel is balancing the narrative for players who have played the first game and ones coming fresh into the story.”

Crafting a sequel is a trap that can trip up even the best escape room designers. Immersia has somehow created a game that shines brilliantly on its own, and yet also rewards players who’ve played the first game, Weekend at the Shack. The St-Onge Case is fun and engaging (and not just a little scary). It does a masterful job at delivering the narrative and backstory.

woman with long wavy brown hair and blue eyes in white suit jacket, behind her is a man with dark brown hair and beard, with green eyes, wearing glasses in a black t-shirt. behind them is an image of a bulletin board filled with images of people tied up, happy family, maps, and post-t notes.

Ten years after surviving a murderous attack at a remote cabin, you’re back to confront the imprisoned Philippe St-Onge. What sets this game apart is how Immersia handles the story recap. Rather than front-loading players with a cutscene or a wall of text, they weave the backstory directly into the puzzles themselves — teaching you everything you need to know about Philippe St-Onge by playing the game.

Maxime Filion and Jacinthe Bellemare from Immersia join us on Spoilers Club to pull back the curtain on this Golden Lock Award winning game. This game had reveal after reveal, and Maxime and Jac gave us all the details on how they created the The St-Onge Case.
