Description
Upon booting up the game, and donning your VR headset, you’re transported into The 7th Guest VR, revisiting an old house where guests gathered one night, and by exploring the house, you uncover what happened that evening.
Whereas the original 7th Guest was punishingly hard, this one was more approachable – moderate difficulty.

The 7th Guest VR has moved into my top 5 list for VR puzzle games to recommend to friends. Created by Vertigo Games, this version is a reimagining of a popular 1993 CD-Rom game originally produced by Trilobyte. In this narrative murder mystery game, you are invited to wander the halls of a ghostly mansion, solving puzzles to unlock the memories of what happened in this house and perhaps even free some restless souls in the process. What set this game apart from others in its initial release was its high quality video captures interspersed throughout gameplay. In this new VR version, 3D Volumetric Captures of actors performing the roles of each guest made this an immediate standout in immersive gaming for me. Having previously worked with Holoportation and other volumetric captures, I was so pleased to see this technology being utilized to such great effect. It really brought the story to life for me along with the bevy of enjoyable puzzle challenges and lovely art. The actors and voiceovers were immensely enjoyable and I truly felt as though my presence in the game had an impact on the story. I highly recommend The 7th Guest VR if you’re a fan of murder mysteries and story-driven games. An excellent reimagining of a classic!

I enjoyed my 7th Guest VR experience. Being new to this story and world, I wouldn’t have guessed it originated in the 90’s. Exploring the residence, hunting for clues, and uncovering the compelling story felt natural. The puzzles solved well and took advantage of being virtual through unique props and mechanics that can’t be replicated in the real world.
The game is designed to be, and is beatable as, a solo experience. However, I played as a group of three, which was great. We traded off wearing the headset while others watch from a connected tv and coached the player along.

The 7th Guest VR is a beautiful virtual reality video game with satisfying puzzles used to tell a compelling narrative. I haven’t played the original 7th Guest, so I can’t remark on how it compares to its predecessor, but this game stands on its own. The puzzles in this game are a good fit for the medium, and while a couple of puzzles got too tedious for my liking, the puzzles are varied enough in style that it keeps the player engaged throughout. Overall, the game is beautiful; the sets, the puzzles, and the characters all work together to bring the space to life. Definitely worth a play through!
