The Key of Destiny was Boggled Escape Rooms’ first production, and it’s a solid, classic, puzzle-focused escape room in a lovingly hand-crafted Egyptian tomb setting.

While the early game was smooth, it didn’t make a big impression, but the mid-to-late game was where Boggled Escape Rooms shined by presenting some novel mechanical puzzles. The moments of tangibility were where The Key of Destiny set itself apart.

Analog technology has a pretty significant appeal, and I loved seeing it on display in The Key of Destiny. Ideally, even more would have elevated the ideas that were on display in this first game. And that excites me for what’s to come at Boggled. If you’re in the area and looking for a puzzle-focused escape room with interesting, analog tech, check out The Key of Destiny.

Story

Our team of explorers set off into an ancient Egyptian tomb in pursuit of Sophie, a fellow explorer who sought The Key of Destiny.

Setting

The Key of Destiny was set in 3 chambers, each was lovingly hand-painted. The early room was a bit spartan, and very large for what was contained within. The middle space was small but interesting. And the final space had both the niftiest props and by far the most detailing.

Gameplay

Boggled Escape Rooms’ The Key of Destiny was a standard escape room with a moderate level of difficulty and a large volume of puzzles.

Core gameplay revolved around searching, mechanical manipulation, and observation.

Analysis

➕ Boggled Escape Rooms presented a large volume of fast paced, quick hit, classic escape room puzzles.

➕ The Key of Destiny was at its best when we were exploring mechanical interactions, and there were a number of them.

➖ The first room was far too large and undecorated, it made a rough first impression. Fortunately The Key of Destiny recovered in the second and third spaces.

➖ I would have gladly traded a number of quick-hit puzzles for a few more of the novel mechanical interactions that Boggled Escape Rooms excelled it.

➕ The third and final space had a lot of detail and charm; this made the game for me.
