Description

This is a logic puzzle game. You have to use different mechanical parts (like levers or buttons) alongside tons of cables to make the energy flow correctly to accomplish a variety of quirky tasks in Albatown. Along the way, secrets of the city are uncovered, along with those who may oppose their plans.

There is a campaign mode teaching you all the basics, such as how switches work. Additionally, you can create and upload your own challenges or play the levels from other players around the world.

Linkito is a fun introduction to circuit design and Boolean logic disguised as a video game. I enjoyed the aesthetic and appreciated the elegant user interface. The puzzles have a nice range of difficulty, and the truly challenging ones are politely placed in bonus levels, which are not on the critical path. The narrative and characters were quite shallow and felt like a missed opportunity to either have a more fleshed out world or to be skipped and allow the puzzles to stand on their own.

I would recommend this to anyone interested in a very puzzle-focused game rooted in real world principles, and especially to anyone with an interest in electronics and programming.

You get hired as an engineer at “Albatross Technologies.” Learning how to repair different tech items lets you climb the corporate ladder. However, the company and their robots seem to have a secret beyond their initial appearance.

At its best, Linkito not only presents a truly thought-out logic game, but it also has an interesting background story and reasoning for what you do. You can learn about electric circuits and use your problem-solving skills in a variety of tests without it ever feeling like homework. Especially the final levels showcase the infinite possibilities of what you could build.

At its worst, the difficulty increased significantly between the regular campaign and the bonus challenges. I hoped the complexity would be introduced more gradually. The extra tasks also threw in new mechanics without explaining them, which in one instance made the solution unintuitive. I wasn’t the biggest fan of whenever a time limit was set, but luckily you can turn that off in the settings.

This game additionally offers a sandbox mode where you can design your own creations or play levels from all over the world, letting you choose from an endless pool of fun.

As the lucky winner of the lottery to join Albatross Tech in the Metropolis inspired Albatown, players in Linkito learn the art of circuit design and logic tools to control robots, defuse bombs, and decode messages. Onboarding is smooth with a loose narrative in the Campaign Mode that drives level advancement and hints at mysteries to be uncovered. To me, it felt that most of the game was continuous onboarding as new tools were introduced, finishing with a meta level that didn’t bring together all the skills learned previously. The Campaign was almost secondary to the game platform created by Linkito which includes more difficult bonus levels and considerable user created content, if building increasingly complicated logic circuits is your jam. Otherwise, circuit design can only be made so fun before the novelty wears off and tedium sets in.

Theresa Piazza’s Reaction

Linkito was a satisfying puzzle video game with a moderate level of difficulty. While I typically would listen to a podcast or music while solving this style of video game, I was entertained by the soundscape created within Linkito. One thing that made Linkito stand out among similiar games is the hinting mechanic. Pretty frequently with puzzle video games, if you are stuck, you have to resort to a player generated tutorial on the internet to get you unstuck. Searching for a specific answer on the internet often means seeing more than you’d like. Linkito took a welcome but unusual approach and provided hint buttons near specific areas of puzzles they anticipated would trip folks up. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced puzzle game, add Linkito to your steam library!
