REA Reaction

Just Escape Room has new ownership, and Floor 66 was the first new game built under the new regime. It was a massive step up from their earlier content.

A small robot holding a a small device with wires coming out of it.

Floor 66 was a cleanly built game that didn’t take many risks, but also didn’t make a lot of mistakes. As a result, it plays really well. It also left me wanting a lot more: more commitment to story, more intriguing environments, and more gameplay that ties player action to the game’s world.

Overall, Floor 66 felt like a hard reset for an older company under new management, and I hope that this is a launchpad for future success. If you’re in the area, I’d check out Floor 66.

Who is this for?

  • Puzzle lovers
  • Any experience level

Why play?

  • Solid puzzles
  • This is the start of something more ambitious for Just Escape Room

Story

In 2107, a bomb threatens to destroy a high-rise building. We were (are? will be? Time travel is grammatically strange.) sent through time to prevent the tragedy.

Setting

Floor 66 had an interesting aesthetic, blending a very grounded look of the apartment itself, and an ultra futuristic approach to every glimpse outside of the space. The split was stark, but the set was cleanly built and did evoke a city living space.

A living room in an apartment.

Gameplay

Just Escape Room’s Floor 66 was a standard escape room with a low level of difficulty.

Core gameplay revolved around searching, puzzling, and making connections.

Analysis

➕ Floor 66 had a well-designed set of puzzles throughout the entire game.

➖ While the puzzles themselves were clear, our rewards for solving them weren’t always clear.

➕ The set was cleanly designed, accessible, and easy to understand and traverse.

➖ For a game set in the far future, Floor 66 felt too much like the present day. The locks and props felt like they were owned by someone in 2025, not someone from 2107. This could have been narratively justified, but it wasn’t.

➕ Just Escape Room imbued Floor 66 with a quirky personality. The game had a soul.

Tips For Visiting

  • Just Escape Room is on the second floor of their building. Once inside, follow signs to their door.
  • Street parking was available; leave time to park.
  • There were food options within both walking distance and a short drive
