Who doesn’t love the idea of a treasure hunt?
We haven’t had the time to try our hands at this, but we have friends who have traveled all over solving puzzles not just for fun, but for profit. We also have friends who make treasure hunts.
And to that end… we’re especially excited to tell you about the online hunt Who Killed Ickey? happening later this month.

Key Details
- Date January 27, 2024
- Time: 10:00am PT on January 27, 2024
- Location: online (open to anyone!)
More Information
This treasure hunt was designed by John Bromels, a member of the team running this year’s MIT Mystery Hunt.
The entry fee is buying a copy of the book Who Killed Jerusalem, which will be needed to solve the puzzles. However, you won’t need to read the book to solve anything.
The grand prize is $25k to fastest team.
The next 10 fastest teams win cash prizes with total value of $20k.
There are mini puzzles every week, and solvers are entered into a drawing for $50. If you solve every single puzzle, you’re entered into a drawing for $5k.
Neither the book (which is set in 1977 San Francisco) nor the Hunt are related to recent global events in any way.
