One of the most common questions we get at Room Escape Artist is “what escape rooms do you recommend in <insert random city>? “
We are fortunate to have a team of contributors who travel the world, review experiences, and make escape room recommendations for our Regional Recommendation Guides.

More Than Just a List of Games
A quick internet search will provide you with a list of escape rooms in any given city, but our Regional Recommendation Guides are filled with information to help you find the right experience for your team. Almost all of our escape room recommendations are games that we have reviewed. (And they are all games that a REA Contributor has played and recommends.) Clicking on any of the links will lead you to the game’s review and give you a better understanding of why we recommend it.
Recommendation Categories
Every recommendation guide starts off with the Market Standouts. If you only have time for 1-2 games, and you aren’t looking for something specific, choose from the Market Standout list. Many of these games have won a Golden Lock Award. Golden Lock Award winning games are identified in the guides with a 🔒.
We further help you learn more about the style of each game by separating them into categories. Some of these labels include:
- Set & Scenery Driven
- Tech-Heavy
- Newbie Friendly
- Puzzle-Centric
- Scary/ Spooky
- Games with Actors
- Theatrical
- Humorous
- Large Team
If you like a specific style of play (i.e. beautiful sets), or you have a particular team dynamic (i.e. bringing friends who’ve never played an escape room), or you want to avoid something (i.e. scary games), we’ve got you covered.
And Now For Something Completely Different…
Sometimes, there is an experience in a given market that isn’t quite an escape room, but that we want to bring to the attention of our audience. For example, Meow Wolf (multiple locations) and City Museum (St. Louis).
We also like to share tips for travelers in our Regional Recommendation Guides. We often include suggestions on places to grab a bite to eat or other interesting sights to see in the area.
At Room Escape Artist, you can also find Recommendation Guides for Tabletop games, Overnight Escape Rooms, and Remote (Virtual) games.
Our Regional Recommendation Guides are International!
Across the US, we have published over 40 Regional Recommendation Guides, but our coverage doesn’t end there! We have Recommendation Guides for multiple regions in Canada and 8 European countries (and counting!).
Continuously Updated
The Room Escape Artist team is always reviewing the Regional Recommendation Guides to add new games and to remove games that have closed or that we can no longer recommend. We make sure to adjust the last updated information on the main recommendation page and at the top of each guide so you can see the last time the list was modified.
As a rule of thumb, if the guide has been updated in the last 2-3 years, trust the guide. If it’s older than that, you might want to contact us to see if we have any updated intel. We have reviewers traveling all the time, so you never know what guide will be updated or newly created next.
REPOD & Spoilers Club Interviews
We have had many designers and owners of the escape rooms featured in the Recommendation Guides as guests on the Reality Escape Pod or on a Spoilers Club episode. The links for you to listen to these podcast episodes are conveniently added to the guide so you can hear the creators talk about their games – with or without spoiling it.
