Room Escape Artist

The Reality Escape Convention, or RECON, is an escape room and immersive gaming convention for industry professionals and players. It’s for those who believe in the future of this industry and want to shape where it goes.

It alternates annually between being a in-person event and an online event. The upcoming event will be remote, August 17-18, 2025.

RECON Remote 25

RECON 25 will be a remote event, accessible from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Look forward to streamed talks and Q&As, online conversation in our discord venue, a virtual exhibit hall and demo stage, and a virtual game.

Past Events

RECON Los Angeles 24

RECON 24 took place on August 18th & 19th, 2024, in Los Angeles, California. The theme of “The Next 10 Years” focused on professionalizing and growing up as an industry.

The event included a curated collection of featured talks from industry-leading speakers, “birds of a feather” topic-focused discussions, on-site immersive games, an exhibit hall, and a game hidden within the event. It was the biggest event we’ve run to date, and it gave so many people the opportunity for conversation and sharing ideas.

RECON Remote 23

We hosted a new online event in August 19-20, 2023: RECON Remote. This event focused on the evolution of our industry.

It included 7 featured talked from industry-leading speakers, followed by Q&As. RECON collaborated with game designer Mark Larson on the virtual game The Shop of Theseus, which delighted players. Our exhibitors wow’d on the virtual demo stage. And those with Pro tickets enjoyed not only facilitated discussions following some of the talks, but also had access to full pre-con professional day with facilitated “birds of a feather” conversations on a range of topics important to this growing industry.

RECON Boston 22

On August 21-22, 2022, we finally hosted RECON in person, in Boston. The event featured speakers, workshops, and off-site excursions to local escape rooms, Boda Borg and Level99. It showcased the diversity in immersive gaming, and provided actionable strategies for innovating, based on these inspirations. Plus, it was incredible to reconnect in person.

RECON 21 Global

In August of 2021, we held the second annual RECON Global, an online event that brought our global escape room community back together.

RECON 21 ushered in rebirth of escape rooms, following a year where in person entertainment had been challenged. RECON presented a collection of 14 featured talks guided by where we’re going, not where we’ve been.

RECON 20 Global

In August of 2020 we held the first annual RECON. It was supposed to be held in Boston, but in light of the pandemic we pivoted, and brought it online.

We had over 900 people in our digital venue, The RECON Discord, from at least 62 different countries, plus countless others watching live as we streamed streamed talks. RECON 20 Global was a resounding success.
