REA Reaction

This is how I like my mystery flavor products:

  • A variety of flavors
  • Most of them good
  • No BS contests with pages of legalese and crazy entry processes
Packaging torn open, worms pouring out.

Trolli Sour Brite Mystery Night Crawlers were a fun collection of flavors that really highlighted how much artificial coloring and flavoring go hand in hand in normal sugary treats. When you bite into 3 different white treats and they each return different flavors that are typically associated with other colors, it’s a surprisingly weird sensation.

If you’re looking to play the Mystery Flavor Game, this is a fantastic option. Frequently mystery flavor products make me feel like I am being punished for past sins, but I can comfortably say that Trolli Sour Brite Mystery Night Crawlers came regret-free.

Who is this for?

  • Sweet & sour gummy fans
  • Mystery food junkies

Why play?

  • They’re tart
  • They taste pretty good
  • Mysteries are fun

Gameplay

Some mystery flavor products are complicated. Trolli Sour Brite Mystery Night Crawlers were simple.

Acquisition

First you’ll have to hunt down a bag. I haven’t seen any in stores… but due to recent events, I haven’t been to very many stores. I found mine for $6.39 (after tax) on Amazon. One reviewer there pointed out that the price was steep for a single 5-ounce bag of gummy worms:

DeAnna Ainslie's 1 star amazon review reads, " NOT WORTH THE PRICE!! Small bag for $7.95...REALLY.... Wish I would have looked at size before ordering!"
Didn’t read the product description. Gives the product 1 star.

DeAnna, get it together. The first rule of Mystery Flavor Products is, “There are no good deals.” If you’re deal hunting your mystery flavor products, then you’ve already lost. (Also, DeAnna, I paid $1.56 less than you.)

Consumption

The only remaining step is to eat these gummy worms and guess their flavors. Trolli Sour Brite Mystery Night Crawlers has no guessing contest, which certainly simplifies things.

Instead, there are 6 different flavors in play… which complicates things. There are green/ white, red/ white, and blue/ white worms. Each half is a unique flavor, which means that all 3 white flavors are different from each other.

Back of packaging asks if you can guess? Two flavors per worm.

Analysis

➕ The inclusion of 6 different mystery flavors added more depth to this experience than we’re used to finding when playing the Mystery Flavor Game.

❓ When it comes to excessively sugary treats, I tend to prefer the tart variety… so I was quite happy with these flavors.

➕ The fact that half of the mystery flavors in this package were all the same color was a mind#^(%. This really spiced things up.

The worms piled on a plate.
Spoiler: What did it taste like?

Red: Tasted green, possibly sour apple
Red’s White: So mild you could barely taste it. We were thinking passion fruit or lychee. Who knows?
Green: Pear
Green’s White: Tasted yellow, like artificial banana
Blue: Tasted like a pineapple Lifesaver
Blue’s White: Mango

➕ The packaging was vibrant and fun.

➖ When I opened my package, all of my worms had cohered into a giant “worm king.” It wasn’t too hard to separate them, but it did detract from the experience.

➕ There was no stupid contest or sweepstakes, so I didn’t have to read a ton of terms and conditions before writing this.

Tips For Players

  • Space Requirements: This can be done anywhere.
  • Required Gear: A small plate proved helpful, but was not necessary.
