Escape Rooms

40 Thieves, Mind Trap Escape Room (Temecula, CA) – This was a vastly sprawling escape room adventure, brimming with character, and set in the world of a mystical bazaar. (Review by Theresa W)

Abstraction, Eliviascape (Québec City, QC, Canada) – From story to puzzle design, to the sheer scale of the game world, Abstraction was packed with originality, coherence, and grim beauty. The last act had a puzzle interaction that was as big as it was unique. (Review by David Spira)

Hide & Seek, The Escape Warehouse (Ponchatoula, LA) – Hide & Seek brought a classic childhood game to life with a bit of a thrill. It’s creepy, but not terrifying. It felt familiar… but twisted. (Review by Lisa Spira)

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, 13th Hour Escape Rooms (Wharton, NJ) – From the characters, to the sets, to the iconic story beats, 13th Hour Escape Rooms brought Oz to life. Fans, take note: you don’t want to miss this. (Review by Lisa Spira)

Event Coverage

The Crate Gotham Challenge: Holiday Edition, Great Gotham Challenge – This tabletop (and online) puzzle hunt took place on December 26 and 31, 2022. It was a race to solve all the puzzles contained in a crate as fast as possible. (Review by The REA Hivemind)

Our PAX Unplugged 2022 coverage is available in 2 installments: Bigger, Better, and Gamified and The Puzzle Events. More than ever before this tabletop gaming convention in Philadelphia, PA offered content escape room players would (and did!) enjoy. (Recaps by Andrew Reynolds)
