For the first time at a RECON, David will take to the stage alone.

His opening talk will introduce the theme of the RECON Laval: resilience.

Nobody has their pulse on this industry more than David. In his recent keynotes at the Prague Escaping Summit and the Immersive Experience Network Summit in London, he shared advice for how to build a thriving escape room business, grounded in a deep understanding of where this industry has been, and how it is evolving. He offered some spicy takes.

David Spira is the most influential international advocate for escape rooms and immersive games. His talks are about the state of the industry, and how to cement your place in it.

Where will I be? That’s our own personal resilience story.

Divergent Paths is a Business Decision

David writes all of our talks. He excels at sharing ideas in this format. When he writes a talk, he thinks about who will deliver it, and how. He crafts messages around us sharing a stage, and playing off each other’s energy. He writes talks that are meant for a single voice, his voice… that build momentum and drive toward their points. David speaks without notes, and with a confidence and poise that comes from a lot of practice and really loving the craft of speech delivery.

We love sharing a stage, but that isn’t always possible. RECON has provided us that opportunity annually for the past 6 years.

With RECON 26, however, I’m the Producer. (Congratulations, Kate, on the new addition to your family!) It’s my job to know how every little detail of RECON works, and make sure each piece goes smoothly. I’m not doing this alone, of course. We have an incredible team who has spent the last 18 months making this event happen. They are outstanding! But like every business, we’ve had to adapt in the face of challenges.

One of our adaptations this year was acknowledging that David and I have different strengths, and RECON will be a better event if we put every person, including ourselves, where they can have the largest impact. David’s is on the stage, speaking in his solo voice. Mine is behind the scenes.

That’s one of our stories of resilience. In a way, it’s realizing again the same lesson that we learned that time we ran an Escape Immerse Explore Tour in a hurricane.*

In his opening talk, David will talk about both business and creative resilience. I hope you’ll be there to hear it, and join in the conversation.

*Come find me at RECON. I’ll tell you a wild story.
