The Cryptex Hunt Is On

The Cryptex Hunt is an annual online game where players find and solve hidden puzzles. This year’s theme is “Puzzles hidden in Puzzles.” You can find out more and register to play at cryptexhunt.com/2022/.

Starting Monday, February 28, 2022, at 8:00pm ET, one puzzle will be released each day until Saturday, March 5 at 1:00pm ET, when the finale puzzles will be released.

Cryptexes As Prizes

This year there is no prize for finishing first. In order to address the concerns of people from other time zones, all teams will have 24 hours from the finale release to complete the hunt and be entered into a drawing for the grand prize.

On Sunday, March 6 at 1:00pm ET, every team that has completed the Cryptex Hunt is eligible for the Grand Prize drawing.

Players will also have the entire month of March to finish the hunt for a chance at winning the second prize. On Thursday, March 31 at 11:59pm ET, every team that has completed the Cryptex Hunt is eligible for the Second Prize drawing.

Grand Draw Prize: A Custom Nevins Line Cryptex®

Second Draw Prize: A Standard 5-ring Cryptex®

Friendly Competition

In my past experience as a player, I’ve found The Cryptex Hunt to be less about competition and more about community, collaboration, learning, and fun. Plenty of hints and help were available when I needed them and the player appreciation for the creative team was palpable.

A few warm up puzzles have already been released with some very approachable challenges. Simpsons Warmup Puzzle was created by REA writer Sarah Willson. Another puzzle, made by Darren Miller, is REA themed, which is a tradition Darren has designed into The Cryptex Hunt that we truly appreciate. (This most recent puzzle mentions our past Escape Immerse Explore tours. Tickets for New Mexico 2022 are on sale now.)

Competitive or not, whether playing solo or on a team, The Cryptex Hunt offers a puzzly good time for all.
