Description

Strange Jigsaws is a video game in which a series of puzzles are presented as different styles of jigsaw puzzles. As the game progresses, they increase in complexity and abstraction.

on a white background, a series puzzles that need to be assembled: segments of yellow pipe, red and blue jigsaw pieces, and a door labeled "Door to the Jigsawverse".

Peih Gee Law’s Reaction

Every single time after I solved a puzzle in Strange Jigsaws, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. All throughout the gameplay, we kept asking ourselves “who thinks of this stuff?!”

This game isn’t really about jigsaws, except in the most basic sense. Rather, it’s puzzles disguised as jigsaws. The creator is clearly someone who understands the nuance of jigsaw puzzles. This game does some funky meta things that very much gives the feel of solving a jigsaw, from the act of sorting pieces and making small connections until you see the whole picture.

The puzzles were weird and brilliant, and made me feel weird and brilliant, in the best way possible.

Tammy McLeod’s Reaction

I was excited about this game because I am a huge jigsaw puzzle fan. This is NOT a jigsaw puzzle game. Ostensibly it appears to be, but it is actually a logic puzzle game at heart – a genre which I also happen to love. The fact that the interface uses jigsaws is whimsical and comes across as a hilarious inside joke. It wields its MS Paint aesthetic ironically (the puzzles are sophisticated and refreshing) and I found it quite charming, and the levels went by quite quickly. It provided sufficient value for its low cost, but I found myself wishing for more.

Andrew Reynolds’ Reaction

Strange Jigsaws was a short game about solving jigsaws. But it was more than just that. These jigsaws evolved into logic puzzles and lateral thinking puzzles that tended to push the envelope of exactly what a jigsaw puzzle could be. Strange Jigsaws only lasted about 3 hours, but it was quality time spent thinking about how to solve a series of creative puzzles. In that short time, Strange Jigsaws even managed to layer in a short but endearing narrative that pieced the whole game together in the end. If you like a game that encourages you to figure out its rules while you’re playing it, Strange Jigsaws is a great choice for an evening’s entertainment.
