Description
This was a typical, in-person, 60-minute escape room using searching and logical deduction. While the puzzles and decor nodded to the show Only Murders in the Building, special knowledge of the show was not required to solve this escape room.
Our crew visited the Los Angeles activation.
Peih Gee Law’s Reaction
There were definitely murders in this building… because The Escape Game killed it with this love letter to the popular Hulu mystery comedy-drama Only Murders in the Building. Even though this game was built in their existing The Heist game, it wasn’t just a re-skin. Instead, TEG built a full-fledged hour-long escape room with all new puzzles, jam-packed with Easter eggs and nods to the show.
The designers of the game were clearly fans of the series, and every puzzle sunk us deeper and deeper into the world of the Arconia.

Cara Mandel’s Reaction
The Escape Game is known for having consistently solid, well-designed, and entertaining rooms so it should come as no surprise that the promotional escape room for Hulu’s show Only Murders in the Building was well-executed. What I wasn’t expecting was for it to be such a lovingly faithful homage to one of the coziest shows about murder since Murder She Wrote. The show itself is just delightful to watch with its hilarious writing, gorgeous locations, and killer cast (yeah, I said it) so The Escape Game had big shoes to fill in crafting this activation. They certainly rose to the challenge. The room was filled with Easter eggs from the show everywhere we turned and, as fans of the show, we spent as much time laughing at the references they snuck in as we did solving puzzles. Marketing activations can be very much hit-or-miss and especially those involving escape rooms so I’m both pleased and relieved to report that this one was a hit. Bravo to all involved. Plus… WE GOT MERCH!
Tammy McLeod’s Reaction
Having watched Only Murders In The Building, I very much appreciated how this game paid homage to the show, both in the set design, and in the puzzles. The attention to detail in the design clearly showed this as a labor of love, and it was such a delight to see my favorite elements of the show incorporated into the room. Despite being a limited-time promo, this game was a full-fledged escape room that I would have gladly paid money to play, and I suspect so would other fans of this show.
Conclusion
This was a really fun game, and a topnotch activation. We were thoroughly impressed. As escape room players, we sailed through this game, stalling only briefly on a search-fail. However, as this game is targeted to fans of the show who might be new to escape rooms, there was opportunity for tighter cluing in some puzzles. Overall, we loved this experience and we expect, for those who are able to grab tickets, it has the potential to bring in new escape room fans.
